A captivating story
There is always a riveting story behind every invention, and this one is no exception. The Caskmates was created by two lifelong friends in 2013, Dave Quinn, the Master of Whiskey Science at Jameson Distillery, and Shane Long, the Head Brewer at local Irish micro-brewery Franciscan Well. Shane had a clear objective: to convince his friend Dave Quinn to lend him a few oak whiskey barrels used in the Jameson Distillery to age beer. He waited until Dave finished drinking his five pints, and then persuaded him into going ahead with the loan. For years, Shane then used them to age beer, but eventually had to give them back. When Dave collected them, a thought struck him: why not use the stout-seasoned barrels to age Jameson whiskey?
An artisanal process
Once the trial was started, the team in charge of this creation looked for traces of beer in the whiskey once a month. Six months into this process, Quinn discovered a completely new flavour. In the beginning, they used Irish stout beer barrels, then impressed by the results, they decided to repeat the process, this time using IPA barrels.
On the palate
Both beer and whiskey lovers alike will certainly enjoy the experience of drinking Jameson Caskmates IPA Edition. Additionally, this whiskey will also delight cocktail fans, as it is ideal for mixing it with soda end enjoyed cold.
The IPA edition is characterized by a subtle taste of light citrus fruit, green apples, grapefruit and hoppy notes.
