The ultimate beach-holiday fragrance celebrates its 30th anniversary

Davidoff Cool Water, the scent that embodies the freshness of the ocean, is celebrating a big milestone. This iconic fragrance was born 30 years ago, but it’s not showing its age one little bit.

The first scent in the Cool Water dynasty was composed by famed perfumer Pierre Bourdon (co-founder of flavours and fragrances company Takasago). The fresh aquatic notes and bold droplet-shaped blue bottle were unlike anything else on the market and went on to inspire an entire family of fragrances.

A fragrance with many faces

Some of the world’s most engaging men have been the faces of Cool Water over the last three decades. Model Joe Gogol was the first Davidoff man, followed by professional surfer Laird Hamilton for the 2006 campaign. Actors Josh Holloway of Lost and Paul Walker of The Fast And The Furious followed. And actor Scott Eastwood has held the position since 2015. It’s not surprising that Davidoff Cool Water remains in the top ten international men’s fragrances and a bestseller in the US, UK, Germany and Italy. In fact, one bottle is sold every eight minutes worldwide.

A new collector’s edition

To commemorate its 30th year, Davidoff is celebrating with the launch of a limited-edition fragrance, Davidoff Cool Water - The Coolest Edition. This 200ml metallic blue bottle is accented with silver graphics and housed in an ice-cube box. The inspiration for the packaging was a scene from the original Cool Water advertising campaign (directed by Jean-Paul Saulieu) in which the Davidoff Cool Water bottle appeared inside a block of ice.

The classic fragrance has been reimagined by perfumer Antoine Lie (of Takasago) and encapsulates all the freshness and vigor of crisp ice. You can expect an opening of peppermint and aldehydes, and a heart of lavender, juniper and orange blossom. As the fragrance develops on the skin it releases notes of moss, amber and musk. It’s destined to be a future classic.
