Cara Delevingne is one of Hollywood’s freshest faces. Her blunt style, personal history (including her belonging to the British aristocracy) and her powerful stare, have made Cara mega popular in a meteoric manner. She is a world-renowned fashion model who has worked with a number of brands throughout her career and she has now been chosen by the prestigious Maison Dior as the brand’s new ambassador. This relationship could not be more perfect.
La Maison Dior explained how Delevingne represents “honesty and rebelliousness”. Cara Delevingne debuts as Dior’s ambassador with the launch of the new Dior Addict Stellar Shine lipstick range. This intense pink line has been created with the Millenial generation firmly in mind, and for this campaign, Cara is Dior’s muse and goddess.
The new lipstick, developed by creative and image director for Dior Makeup Peter Philips, is described by the brand as “a new iconic and avant-garde lip shine which incarnates the spectacular spirit of fashion.” These qualities make it the perfect fit for Delevingne’s modern and cheeky beauty, according to the fashion house. At the launch in Shanghai, China, Delevingne praised Dior’s new campaign and the colour pink, as told to Vogue Magazine.
“Pink can be pretty and punk. It can go from a pastel romantic pink, but it can also be a hardcore, shocking pink".
"There are as many emotions as there are pink shades and different women’s personalities. Pink is masculine and feminine - you can be yourself. Pink is so much more than pink. It’s not just a pretty colour. Pink should be the strength, what you make of it,” said the new ambassador for the French brand.
Peter Philips, Dior Make-up’s creative and image director, explains: “Pink is iconic, it can be rebellious but also cute and pretty. Take it out of its romantic, cute context and it becomes more powerful. In this lipstick line with Cara we are not abusing beauty to send out a message but playing with it and using it as a tool to enhance the beauty and let a voice be heard."
This is not their first collaboration. Last year, they worked together on the ‘Capture Youth’ campaign starring Delevingne. Since she had also been the face of the ‘Dreamskin’ campaign, it was only a matter of time before being nominated for the ‘aristocratic’ role of Dior ambassador.
One of Cara’s secrets is her close relationship with the British Royal Family. She was born in London and grew up in exclusive Belgravia. Her father Charles is a property developer, and her mother Pandora is a personal shopper and close friend of the Duchess of York. Cara’s grandmother Janie Sheffield, was a lady-in-waiting to Princess Margaret.
This intimacy with the royals has meant that Cara is often seen at the most exclusive events attended by Prince Harry, and at royal weddings. Last year, Cara stole the show at Princess Eugenie’s wedding, dressed in a black tuxedo and top hat. A ‘controversial’ look that pulled out all the stops.
