Some drinks just seem to perfectly embody the country or continent of their origins. Take Amarula Cream, for example, it’s synonymous with the vibrancy of Africa.

The circumstances have to be just right in order to create Amarula. The Marula tree only grows across Africa’s subequatorial plains and its fruit can only be harvested during the hot summer months. The vibrant yellow Marula fruit is gathered by hand before being de-stoned.

The history of Marula is as rich as its flavour. It’s thought that the Marula tree dates back to 10,000 BC and its fruit has long been revered in Africa because it is naturally bursting with vitality. Marula fruit contains four-times more vitamin C than your average orange.

This lush, plum-shaped fruit is crushed and the pulp is fermented. The juice is then distilled and allowed to mature in French oak barrels for at least two years in order to develop its unique flavour. When its two-years are up, cream is added to round out the spicy vanilla flavour. The resulting smooth and creamy liqueur is one that we all know and love.
