Rosie Huntington-Whiteley’s beautiful world

The world-famous model and designer on what makes it into her in-flight stash

For Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, beauty is everything. As a hugely successful model, she has boarded countless planes and travelled around the world to appear on catwalks and in campaigns for every major fashion designer going. She has appeared in blockbuster Hollywood movies including Mad Max: Fury Road and Transformers: Dark of the Moon, and designed beauty, lingerie and swim collections for a massive British retailer. She’s the curator and editor of her very own beauty website, Rose Inc, and now, Rosie has signed to cult favourite make-up brand bareMinerals as an ambassador. When it comes to beauty, it’s in her blood.

Here, Rosie talks about what beauty really means to her, her favourite night-time look and what makes it into her in-flight beauty arsenal.

What is your beauty philosophy? How do you implement clean living into your lifestyle and why is it important to you?

RH-W: I think beauty always starts from the inside out, simple as that. Having a clean lifestyle means making the best choices I can and choosing products that work without compromise. I think small, clean choices throughout my day can lead to a better and brighter future for myself and my family. I try to follow the 80/20 rule. I make the best choices that I can in the moment, and I try to eat and use clean products at home. I’m travelling so much, so I always try to follow the rule of being as clean as I can when I’m at home. And then, when I’m out and about, or I’m at work or I’m travelling, it’s kind of whatever goes.

What’s your relationship with make-up?

RH-W: I feel make-up should be about enhancing, rather than hiding, what you have. I love make-up and will usually have a little bit on when I’m leaving the house. For me, it just adds to my confidence. I enjoy playing up my features and just the creative part of it.

What is your first memory of bareMinerals?

RH-W: As a teenager, I remember the Original Loose Powder Foundation being the most iconic product at the time – it still is and it’s still a much-loved product of mine. I love to work with brands that I truly believe in, brands that have integrity, brands that have products that really work and make a difference in my life.

What goes into your in-flight beauty kit?

RH-W: I always travel with what I call my five-minute face. It’s just three or four products that can give me a little something when I get off the plane. I use the bareMinerals Original Loose Powder Foundation, which is quick to apply. Then, I usually have some type of cream blusher that I can use on my cheeks and on my lips. Then, a little bit of concealer and a misting spray.

What are your go-to bareMinerals products?

RH-W: I love bareMinerals Original Loose Powder Foundation because it has such beautiful coverage and it’s really easy to use. I can use it just as a foundation base, or I can use it on top of my foundation. I travel with it everywhere. I’ll carry it in my bag on the plane and add a little bit on my skin before landing.

When did you start wearing make-up?

RH-W: I’ve always loved make-up and I would say I was probably allowed to start playing around with it when I was about 12 or 13. The first thing I ever bought was a sparkly blue eyeshadow and peel-off nail varnish.

I used to watch my mum get ready for work or for a night out. It was just fascinating and so inspiring to see her go from being my mum to being this kind of glamorous figure that I looked up to. So I’ve always associated beauty with glamour, and beauty with confidence. It’s one of my favorite memories, really, of my mum, that time together.

How has your beauty regime changed over the years?

RH-W: I have probably become more educated, more informed. I’ve been working now for close to 16 years, which is crazy. I have had the chance to work with the most amazing make-up artists throughout my career. I ask a lot of questions, and it’s just really helped enlighten me on the benefits of clean products and making those better choices for myself.

You always appear so pulled-together and glamorous. How would you describe your life and your perfect day?

RH-W: I feel I’m like most women who are just trying to juggle everything all at once, and it can be kind of overwhelming some days. Work, family life, friends and social life, and all the other things that go on day to day, I feel sometimes like I’m trying to keep up with it all. I’m glad it looks pulled-together and effortless, but there are a lot of moving pieces that go on behind the scenes, for sure. There's no routine really to a normal day, but perhaps my perfect day would be to wake up in bed with my family and go to the beach. I like to be in nature – I always think that's the best place to be. Go for a walk, have a really big breakfast, lots of croissants. Just spend the day with family and friends, listening to music, drinking, dancing and eating great food.

What’s your skincare routine and mantra?

RH-W: My skin is the canvas of everything I do, so it comes first. I invest as much time and energy into the best products that I can for my body. The most important step of my skincare routine is putting the goodness back into it. I want my skin to glow and feel hydrated. I’ve been using the bareMinerals SkinLongevity products for some time now, and I’ve just seen incredible results to how plump and dewy my skin looks.

How do you feel without make-up on?

RH-W: When I’m not wearing make-up, I focus my time on my skincare. That being said, the only time I go out without make-up on is when I go to the gym. Otherwise, I always have a little bit of something on as you never know who you’re going to run into. But on the weekends, or if I’m at home, and I’m not going out, I really just like to concentrate on being kind of natural, not having anything on my skin. I like to use the time to put on a mask and use my skincare products, just to feel clean and natural.

Describe your perfect night out look.

RH-W: I always choose to play up my eyes or lips – never both. For my eyes, I might do a smoky, sexy, smudgy, charcoaly kind of look. Lots of lashes. Then for my lips, I might choose to go cleaner on the eyes paired with a bright red or bold pink or fuchsia to really accentuate them.
