THE BEST OF BRANDS

The show might be over, but the legend lives on with two new GOT limited editions. Following the launch of Johnnie Walker’s White Walker limited edition blend, the iconic Whisky House now aims to conquer the hearts of GOT fans with another limited edition, inspired by the powerful Houses of Stark, and Targaryen, A Song of Ice and A Song of Fire. This is all you need to know about this blend, before you can get yours.

Only for fans

For the past decade, HBO’s epic show has broken every audience record. The show thrilled millions of fans, won Emmys, and became a unique cultural phenomenon, that has radically changed the universe of TV series forever. Johnnie Walker understands the process of joining forces with another equally successful brand and working as a team.

The result was White Walker by Johnnie Walker, one of the most successful that captivated both fans of the series, and Johnnie Walker collectors alike. However, Game of Thrones was never a series solely about the White Walkers. The series focused on other houses and that meant the ending of this legendary story demanded something more. The protagonists deserved something to honour their memories- Starks and Targaryen, Direwolf and Dragon…. Ice and Fire! This is how the idea of creating two unique special editions was born, and they are now available at duty free stores, for a limited time only.

War of flavors

Johnnie Walker A Song of Ice is the drink the Stark family would wish they had to help combat the icy cold of Winterfell, the fortress where they have resided for centuries. Johnnie Walker A Song of Ice features single malts from Clynelish, one of Scotland’s most northern distilleries.

This is a whisky blend with a delicate herbal taste, together with vanilla and tropical fruit notes. The new blend has an ABV of 40.2%. The expression is said to be best served cold over ice, for a smooth and chilled finish. The bottle design evokes an icy setting with frosted blue and grey colours inspired by the cold winters and frozen landscapes of the North.

The front of the bottle is fiercely adorned with the Dire-wolf, a fictional creature created by George R.R. Martin to protect and accompany the Starks. As engraved on the bottle, this blend “exudes a crisp, clean taste like the unforgiving force of ice that shapes mountains and stops rivers”.

Like a mirror image, Johnnie Walker Song of Fire is shown the opposite to its icy counterpart. Fire consumes everything it touches and is the territory of heat, bold, fierceness. A full-bodied whisky, complete with berries, hints of spice, and sweet and smoky notes. It is rich and spicy, boasting flavours of subtle smoke from the peated malts of the Caol Ila distillery.

With an ABV of 40.8%, it is best enjoyed neat, for a smooth and warm finish. Inspired by the dragons of House Targaryen, who have been the undisputed stars of the series over all these years. Even those who have never watched a single episode of the HBO series will recognise them as dragons, due to their famed and magnetism.

Feared for their fire breathing, the bottle design evokes a fiery setting with deep-red colours. “They say that fire consumes everything it touches and sharpens the most fatal sheets of a blade”.

The authorized voice

Jeff Peters, Vice President, Licensing & Retail at HBO, explains the reasons behind the new alliance. "We were very proud to partner with Johnnie Walker again to bring more whiskies to the realm. The Game of Thrones audience continues to both engage with the culture fostered around the series and look for the special collectables that let it live on. After seeing the excitement there was for White Walker by Johnnie Walker, we are thrilled to celebrate the end of an epic tale by offering more quality whisky for fans of the show and whisky enthusiasts to collect and enjoy," he has said.

You can now purchase the two new editions separately. However, how could possibly choose between them? A limited-edition like this demands to buy the pair. The blends are rivals like ice and fire, but neither could live without the other.
